Exterior buildings are placed outside Domes. Buildings that require workers must be placed within the working area around a Dome and colonists will lose Sanity when operating them.

Recharge Stations, Solar Panels and Stirling Generators can be placed inside Domes as well although there is little benefit to be worth it.

Production

Production buildings extract or produce resources and are the only way for a colony to become self-sufficient. All constructed buildings will show their predicted production when clicked. All extractors can only be placed on a deposit and contaminate nearby buildings with dust.

If the Colony Design Set DLC is installed all extractors have an additional visual variant.

Storage

Storage buildings can hold a certain amount of resources, allowing for a more efficient distribution line. Deconstructing them does not require it to be emptied first and any stored resources will simply be dropped on the ground. Storages require the Technology - Automated Storage.png Automated Storage technology and 10 Metals.png Metals and 3 MachineParts.png Machine Parts to build while also consuming 1 Power.png Power and 1 MachineParts.png Machine Parts. Other buildings are free and available from start.

Outside decorations

Outside decorations have only one purpose - to improve the aesthetic of the colony. Banners will always display the logo of the selected Sponsor instead of the colony logo. Aside from the Beacon, Decorations do not consume any Power or Maintenance.
